I know it has been a long while since I have blogged. I can only blame it on the pursuit of my second master's degree which is a requirement of my new job; a job that is not all that new really - I have been at it for 10 months.
In any case, I am still having great success making genealogical connections through the use of AncestryDNA; so many so that I have lost track of the number - 8 - 10 - 12 - I don't know. What I do know though, is that for as wonderful an experience as it has been using DNA as a tool for my research there is wonkiness afoot in their system.
Just today my researching cousin, Cousin Mary, over at http://threadingneedlesinahaystack.blogspot.com/ found her first Raynor connection in her AncestryDNA account. When she told me the name of the user she matched to, it sounded familiar. I went and checked the AncestryDNA results for my father (Cousin Mary is on my dad's side) and sure enough he too matched to the same user. Anyone who has survived logic in their high school math class knows that if A=B and B=C then A=C. For those of you who are mathematically challenged if 1=1 and 1=1 then 1=1. So if Mary matches to person X and person X matches to my dad, then why doesn't AncestryDNA show that Mary and my dad match?? Hmm?
Not thrilled, Ancestry, not thrilled!
